Project Timeline
On June 12, 2006, the LSTA grant award was announced by State Library of North Carolina.
Our initial project outline includes the following Year 1 (of 3) production goals:
- FCPL will contribute 1,200 images
- WFU ZSR will contribute 150 images
- WFU Carpenter will contribute 150 images
- WSSU will contribute 500 images
Note: Throughout the project the following activities will be ongoing:
- Production of master and access images at all locations
- Quality control – assessing quality of all master and access images
- Production of metadata for scanned images at all locations
- Quality control – assessing quality of all metadata
Year 1
Fall 2006
- Order equipment: server, computers, furniture, other equipment
- Hold focus group to broadly outline the features and patterns that might go into the public interface for Digital Forsyth.
- Scan approximately 50 images per institution (~200 total) for a pilot project to determine workflow and procedures and to get preliminary data, that will be used to guide the three-year digitization project.
- Develop taxonomy of subject categories for use in cataloging images
Spring 2007
- Recruit and hire temporary staff to perform scanning and metadata cataloging
- Start development of interface prototypes and design usability test for the initial design
- Conduct Initial usability testing; evaluate prototypes after results; start next design steps.
Summer 2007
- Identify an interface prototype as the interface development template.
- Develop process for template maintenance and public interface modification
- Release a preliminary public interface to specified volunteers
- Survey Users and solicit feedback via Zoomerang
Fall 2007
- Public release of full public interface for Digital Forsyth
Year 2 & Year 3
