Simon Green Atkins, Founder of Slater Industrial Academy

Simon Green Atkins, the founder of Slater Industrial Academy, served as head of the school from 1892-1904. In 1895, the school became Slater Industrial Academy and State Normal School. In 1925, the school became Winston-Salem Teachers College. From 1913 to 1934, Dr. Atkins was head of the institution. Photograph c. 1900.
