City Hospital in downtown Winston-Salem

Sitting on five acres and extending from Third to Fifth Streets and from Dunleith to Cameron in downtown Winston-Salem, was the City Hospital. This site was originally a racetrack and was bought from R. J. Reynolds for $5,000. The original hospital opened in 1914 and was called the Twin-City Hospital or “New” Twin-City Hospital. By 1921, it was named City Memorial Hospital and it kept that name until it closed in May 1964.
