AirCare Responds

AirCare responds! Its pilots, its nurses, its paramedics, its mechanics. Each aboard AirCare has given and each continues to give the fullest measure of his or her talents so that others may live and return home to their normal lives. On September 23, 1986, tragedy struck while AirCare and its crew were on their way to Galax, Virginia to help a fellow human being who suffered a traumatic injury. The helicopter crashed in the side of the mountain and three people perished. They will never be forgotten. Shown here transporting a patient from the helicopter to the ER at North Carolina Baptist Hospital are; (front) a security guard, and the nurses who perished in the crash;(L-R) Barbara Burdette and Karen Simpson. (Also perishing in the same crash, but not pictured was Mr. Barry Day, pilot of AirCare.)
