Dr. Carpenter Portrait

Coy C. Carpenter, son of Rufus Jackson and Betty Rogers Carpenter, was born April 24, 1900, in Carpenter, North Carolina. After graduating from Medical School in 1924, Carpenter was the leading person involved with moving the School of Medicine of Wake Forest College from Wake County, NC to Winston Salem, NC in September 1941. The curriculum was expanded from a two to four year school and was renamed the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest College. The oil portrait was commissioned by the medical school faculty and was painted by Leopold Seyffert Jr. of New York. Dr. Carpenter is pictured sitting on the far right during the unveiling.
