Dr. Frank Lock

Dr. Frank Lock was a member of the “first” faculty at the newly-formed Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He served thirty-two years with the school, twenty-five of those years as chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His interest in overall women’s health prompted him to open the first prenatal clinic in Winston-Salem in 1941 and he founded the Behavioral Sciences Center in 1966 at Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. Lock was the only man in America to serve as the president of both the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and the American Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the same time. He was also the first president of the Bowman Gray Foundation in 1952. He retired in 1973 and died in 1979.
