Dr. Meads Becomes Dean

Dr. Manson Meads was executive dean at Bowman Gray School of Medicine from 1959-1963. Dr. Meads was appointed to the medical school faculty in 1947 as instructor in medicine and was professor and chairman of the Department of Preventive Medicine, associate dean and academic dean. This new position for Meads as dean in 1963 released Dr. Coy Carpenter for more public relations and promotional work in the developing university program of the college, an area in which he had been increasingly interested. Dr. Carpenter was Bowman Gray School of Medicine’s first dean when the four-year school opened in 1941.
