Dr. Robert W. Prichard

Dr. Robert Prichard joined the faculty in 1951. He became Director of Laboratories at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in 1957 and was later named Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1973. He was one of the nation’s pioneers in understanding hardening of the arteries with his research that began in the late 1950s with Dr. Tom Clarkson. He was honored eight times by the Bowman Gray students and was also known to be very humorous. He always looked at a situation as “never being so serious that a little humor can’t help relieve it!”. Dr. Prichard was also widely known as a medical historian. He died in 1995.
