Pre-Interstate 40, Pre-Medical School

This photo shows the “Wilds of Ardmore” area in Winston-Salem, NC before I-40 and the Bowman Gray School of Medicine were built. I-40 began running through the city of Winston-Salem in 1957. The Medical School was moved from Wake Forest, NC to Winston-Salem, NC in 1941, joining the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
