Bettie Baise is Best Student

Miss Betty Baise, far left, discusses with three unidentified nurses the floor plans of the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in this undated photograph. On May 14, 1948 a breakfast was given by the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing staff in honor of the recent graduates. Miss Edna Heinzerling, director of the School of Nursing, announced at the breakfast that Baise of Reidsville had made the highest average in her graduating class and was therefore asked if she would like to join the staff as a nursing instructor. She accepted and held this position until 1959 when a newly-created position was made for her as director of in-service education and nursing service personnel. Baise was responsible for continuing education, orientation and job training of professional graduates, practical nurse graduates, and nurses aides after they left the classroom and accepted positions in the Hospital.
