Dr. Frederick K. Garvey

Frederick K. Garvey joined the faculty of Bowman Gray School of Medicine upon its inception. Dr. Garvey was already practicing medicine in Winston-Salem when the medical school was moved here in 1941. His tenure at Bowman Gray included Assistant Professor of Surgery in charge of urology from 1941-46; Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of the urology department from 1946-1951; Professor of Urology from 1951 until his retirement on May 1, 1969. Dr. Garvey’s research in the formation of kidney and bladder stones is recognized nationally and internationally. Photo is of Dr. Frederick K. Garvey in the early 1940s at the medical school.
