Camillo Artom Doing Research

Dr. Camillo Artom is shown in this undated photograph probably doing research at Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. Artom, originally from Italy, was invited to the Medical School in 1939 to be the chairman of the school’s one-man department of biochemistry. Because of his expertise in lipid metabolism, well-known biochemists came to Winston-Salem to work with him. Dr. Artom died in 1970 at the age of 76.
