Main Hall, Salem Academy and College

Built on the site of the 1771 Gemein Haus (or Congregation Hall), construction of Main Hall was completed in 1856. Francis Fries was responsible with overseeing the design and construction of the building, with the help of noted New York architect Alexander Jackson Davis. The dramatic four-story Greek Revival structure dominates Salem Square, as seen in this photograph.
