First Tuberculosis Hospital

The first Forsyth County Tuberculosis Hospital/Sanitarium opened in 1917 off of north Liberty Street where several airline-related buildings are now located just north of the Smith Reynolds airport entrance. The facility was later used as a NC Highway Patrol and driver’s license office before it was torn down.
