Dr. Tinsley Harrison

Dr. Tinsley Harrison was one of the original faculty members at Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He served as the first chairman of the Department of Medicine and also as Physician in Chief of North Carolina Baptist Hospital for 1941-1944. He is author of “Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine”, published in 1950. Current editions of this book are still used today by both doctors and medical students. Harrison had a very close relationship with all of his “boys” in medical school. In his oral history transcript, he repeatedly commented that “if my boys don’t do better than anybody else, then I have fallen as a teacher!”
