Nathalie Gray Portrait

Nathalie Gray, wife of the late Bowman Gray, Sr. is shown here with son Bowman Gray, Jr. admiring the portrait of herself that used to adorn the walls in her Graylyn mansion. It is now housed inside of North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Ardmore Tower. Mrs. Gray was described as a woman who was “dainty and beautiful. Her personality could light up a room.” Nathalie remarried three years after Bowman Gray died in 1935, becoming Mrs. Benjamin Franklin Bernard, Jr. She passed away in 1961. In 1946 the Graylyn estate was donated to Bowman Gray School of Medicine by her two sons.
