Missy at Amos Cottage

Amos Cottage, located on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, is a hospital that provides therapeutic treatment for children on a daily basis. Shown here “floating” in the pool is Missy Mills, long-time resident of Amos Cottage until 1989, and UNC-Wilmington intern in Recreation Therapy, Katherine Driscoll.

  1. In December of 1981, I was privileged to have assisted in escorting Missy around Winston Salem and Hanes Mall, by Ambulance (Forsyth Rescue Squad) so that she could view Christmas Lights and Decorations. Due to her condition, this was the only way this could happen. Through one of Amos Cottage Nurse Janice Rogers, Missy sent me a very nice letter thanking us for taking her around. I often wondered where her life took her. She was very sweet.
