Watlington Hall

September 1981 was a banner day in the life of the Bowman Gray/Baptist Hospital Medical Center. The Medical Center celebrated its 40th Anniversary and also dedicated its two newest buildings: the Family Practice Building and Watlington Hall. (Watlington Hall was formerly named the Focus Building during its construction and early months of operation) Watlington Hall was named appropriately in 1981 in that it recognized the contributions of John F. Watlington, Jr., capital campaign chair. His leadership from the 1960s to 1980s made possible more than $75 million in new construction at the Medical Center. This photo shows Mr. Watlington being congratulated by the Vice President of the United States in 1981, George Bush, Sr.
