  1. Wallace Carroll, the publisher of the newspapers, is fourth from the left. The picture was probably taken in the composing room. Gray announced his decision to sell the newspapers several times that day, in various locations in the building, in order to speak to all employees. Media General, which still owns the papers, is headquartered in Richmond and owns daily and weekly publications throughout the Southeast as well as a number of television stations.
