Dr. James A. Dillard

Dr. James A. Dillard and Winston-Salem Teachers College choir, date unknown. Dr. Dillard came to WSTC in 1941 and retired in 1970. He was chairman of the Fine Arts and Music Department. He directed the college choir in concerts in the States and in Europe. In the late 1960s, he was invited to take the thirty-member Winston-Salem State University choir to the Sixth International Choral Workshop in France, where they gave eight concerts and taped two others for German and Belgian television, according to historian E. Louise Murphey. On that same tour, Dr. Dillard and the choir visited Rome and Geneva. In 1975, the University of Michigan gave Dr. Dillard their Outstanding Achievement Award.
