Dr. Henry T. Bahnson grew these remarkable lily pads in a pond behind his house located on Church Street in Salem. Thomas S. Wright, the African American man standing in the water, and his wife, Isabella, standing on the bank, were both employees of Dr. Bahnson.

  1. One of the pictures also appeared in National Geographic. I believe the variety of lily pad was called Victoria.
