Medical School and North Carolina Baptist Hospital

This photograph shows the addition of the West Wing to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in 1940-41 as well as the construction of the new Bowman Gray School of Medicine. The Bowman Gray Foundation was awarded to Wake Forest College in 1939 allowing funds for the school to move from a two-year curriculum to a four-year. The North Carolina Baptist Hospital deeded a portion of its surrounding ten-acre plot of land for the construction of the school. The hospital enlarged to 300 beds. The Medical School was ready for occupancy in May 1941.
