Dr. Charlie Brady Hauser

Dr. Charlie Brady Hauser, a native of Yadkin County, North Carolina, was a faculty member at Winston-Salem State University for many years. Dr. Hauser, was a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College, class of 1940, and completed his doctoral studies in Pennsylvania. In 1947, he was arrested in Mount Airy, North Carolina, for refusing to move to the back of a Greyhound bus. At Winston-Salem State, he was director of teacher education and chairman of the education department. Photograph c. 1967. A 2002 audiotaped interview with Dr. Hauser by oral historian Anne R. Phillips, Ph.D., is on file at the Forsyth County Public Library.

  1. Dr. Hauser was a presence in Winston-Salem and was a pioneer. He and his talented family were long standing members of my church, Mount Zion Baptist.
